History and Role in the Community

Live Art Dance Productions began life under the curatorial eye of Diane Moore in 1981 as the IndepenDance Series at Eye Level Gallery, an artist run visual arts centre.

Following ten years of constant activity, the series’ evolution necessitated change and, in January 1992, Moore founded the Live Art Productions Society, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to stimulating an active, vibrant contemporary dance presence in Atlantic Canada.

Since that time, Live Art Dance has programmed an annual season featuring works by local, national, and international dance artists, workshops and Master Classes, residencies, and a variety of audience development & outreach activities. Live Art also founded and has thus far produced three editions of the Atlantic New Dance Festival.

During its history, Live Art Dance has commissioned close to 20 dance works and presented more than 60 premieres. Today, we are the only dance presenter in Atlantic Canada to program an annual contemporary dance series featuring national and international calibre artists.
